Population Of Cambodia

Cambodia is a country situated in south East Asia and borders Vietnam to the east, Laos to the north, Thailand to the west and gulf of Thailand to the south. The geographical conditions of the country are dominated by several fresh water lakes and river Mekong. The country is not politically governed but the kingdom is the governed body with Norodom Sihamoni as its king and Phnom Penh as kingdom's largest city which is the main centre for all the cultural and political; events. Population of Cambodia has recorded a rapid growth in last few decades. According to 1874 and 1921 census records the population of the country recorded a sudden increase which rose from 946,000 to 2.4 million. After then there was a continuous increase in the population. In the year 1950 it reached between 3,710,107 and 4,073,967 whereas by the 1962 it reached 5.7 million. In comparison to other countries of south East Asia, Cambodia's population was increasing with the lowest rate of 2.2% per year. In 1975 the recorded population was nearly 7.5 million but due to increased death rate between the year1975 to 1980, the population was recorded to be 6.3 in the year 1981.

Population of Cambodia increased with a rate of 2.3 5 per year between 1978 and 1985. The life expectancy of the people also increased with a rate of 2.5 years till 1970. According to different population data's 45% of the recorded age in 1945 was of less than 15 years of age which increased to 46% by the year 1962. From age group of 15 to 64 there were about 52% of population recorded in the year 1962 which includes 2 % of older people. According to the present data's the population of the country is 14,244,293 and the death rate has increased due to the AIDS. The present status of the country shows a growth of 1.7655 per year which is lowest in Asia.

The birth rate is recorded as 25.73 per 1000 population whereas the death rate is estimated to be 8.08 per 1000 population. The country has lowest urban population of 22% which has faced a rare change of 4.65 per year. The infant mortality rate of the census shows that there are 61.84 deaths of male and 47.42 deaths of female per 1000 births. The average life of the male in the country is recorded as 60.03 years whereas the females have high average life with 64.27years. As far as the total fertility rate of the country is considered each women give birth to 3.04 children. There are more than 75 thousand people diagnosed with AIDS in the country till date and near about 6700 have died due to this.
